It
was love at first sight when I held this
puppy in my arms in July of 1992.
Fortunately, Bonnie & Ted Taylor (Bonnyville)
of Dorchester, Ontario, were kind enough
to share him with me.
Eli
at 11 1/2 weeks
Even
at this young age; Eli's quality was
unmistakable. The head detail, and
full plushy muzzle were there from the
start. He had a very solemn
expression; serious yet sweet. He
was a very laid back fellow, who took
everything in stride.
Eli
at 7 1/2 months
Eli
was one of those dogs that simply
"grew into himself".
His head and expression changed very
little; he just grew up and filled
out. Eli finished his Canadian
championship from the puppy class with a
Best Puppy In Group along the way. When
he was 13 months old, his first litter was
born. By the time he was a two year
old, he already had 3 Canadian champion
get. In
1996, we made the decision to send him out
west, to stand at stud with Linda Poirier
(Westpointe Shelties) in Golden,
B.C. The CSSA National was held in
Vancouver, British Columbia that year, and
Eli's kids did very well; Linda's
Eli daughter, Westpointe Amarige was Best
In Sweeps under Judge Irene Oishi, then
went on to Reserve Winners Bitch in the
regular classes under Don Henderson.
Her brother, Wespointe Back Alley Rhapsody
was Best Opposite in Sweeps, and went on
to Reserve Winners dog and Best Puppy In
Specialty under Don Henderson. Eli
won the Stud Dog Class that year under Mr.
Henderson; (a feat that he would repeat
again at the CSSA National in Toronto in
1998 under Judge Lynn Broussard.)
When Eli flew home from his visit with
Linda in July of 1997, he was the sire of
23 Canadian champions, and had left many
promising pups behind in western
Canada. We will always be grateful
to Linda Poirier for the super job she did
of promoting our boy in the west.
Bonnie,
Ted & I thought it would be a good
idea to send Eli to the east coast of
Canada, to give the folks down there a
chance to use him. From August of 1997,
until March of 1998, Eli stood at stud
with Grant & the late Melissa Fancy at
Sealoch Kennels. They also took
great care of him, and spoiled him
rotten! When he returned home, he
left behind some lovely puppies, including
an adorable tri girl; Best Puppy In Show
Ch. Sealoch Imalone.
In
the fall of 1999, we made a decision that
would shape the course of Eli's destiny;
we sent him to stand at stud in the United
States with Susan Wolf of Cub Hill
Shelties in Spencer, North Carolina.
It is because of Susan's diligent efforts
in promoting this dog, that you are
reading this page now. When Eli flew
home shortly before his untimely death in
October of 2000, he left behind some
beautiful puppies at some of the oldest
and most respected kennels in the southern
U.S.
We
are very pleased to introduce you to some
beautiful Eli kids and grandkids on the
following pages:
